Businesses Get “Back to Basics” to Boost Profits

Posted on | June 10, 2010 | No Comments

New, enticing technologies and methods for enhancing a business are constantly being developed, diverting people’s attention away from one of the most important aspects of running a business – the basics.

The Tempe Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Greater Phoenix SCORE, is hosting a seminar series focusing on the idea of getting “Back to Business Basics” on Fridays in June.

Led by experts from the business community, sessions will teach participants how to help their business grow and thrive by utilizing tried-and-true techniques stemming from the essentials of business. The next session takes place on June 11 and features Sherry Sentgeorge of Gold Canyon Bank.

For the diverse professionals presenting the individual seminars in the series, the idea of utilizing business basics is something they each value and employ in their own careers.

“Sometimes even our best efforts are lost without direction and getting current information that will be helpful,” explained Sherry Sentgeorge, vice president and sales manager of Gold Canyon Bank. “Many small businesses are so busy trying to run their company on a day-to-day basis that looking at the big picture is difficult.”

“The idea of integrating intuition with analytics adds surprising value,” added Vicki Sandler, president of Wearthy Ideas, LLC.

The “Back to Business Basics” series was designed to cater to people with various levels of business experience, allowing all participants to gain knowledge they can use immediately and in future business decisions.

“The goal is to remind us all of the essentials of good business planning and execution,” said Jamie Glass, president and founder of Artful Thinkers, LLC. “Any business owner or decision maker for a business can benefit from that.”

Ideas and techniques will be introduced that are applicable to today’s business world; particularly with the current state of the economy, many people in business are searching for ways to stay ahead while maximizing their business’ potential.

“There will be a focus on ‘the new normal’ and how business owners can take advantage of today’s economy to grow their business and the business’ value,” said Kjell Andreassen, managing partner of Acceler8, LLC. “Think of it as ‘a business owner’s guide to getting ahead in turbulent times’.”

“We all forget some of the simple things that we used when we first started our business,” said Sentgeorge, “and going back to basics is not such a bad idea.”

The “Back to Business Basics” series is open to both Tempe Chamber members and the general public and will be held each remaining Friday morning in June from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Educational Options campus located at 2150 E. Southern Ave.  Advance registration is required. The cost is $20 per session for members and $35 per session for the general public. Upcoming sessions include:

June 11: “Financing” with Sherry Sentgeorge of Gold Canyon Bank

June 18: “Leadership and Management” with Vicki Sandler of Wearthy Ideas, LLC

June 25: “Marketing” with Jamie Glass of Artful Thinkers
