Looking out my window at work I see dazed and confused parents lagging behind impatient students; dads with boxes of “stuff”, moms with bags of “necessities” and students with a campus map in hand.

If we walk outside and face the Chamber at the southeast corner of Rural Road and Apache Blvd. and lean backwards, we’d almost fall into the ASU Barrett Honors College dormitory.

It’s that time once again – the start of a new phase in some 9,600 freshmen’s lives.

ASU is the BIG thing in Tempe; it’s a BIG member of the Chamber.  ASU Tempe is the city’s largest employer.  The Chamber has shared a wonderful history with ASU. Members of the ASU family serve on the Chamber’s board of directors and on various Chamber committees.

The Chamber enjoys the annual Sun Devil Football Kickoff Luncheon just before the academic year begins.  It always amazes me to see so many, many dedicated good ol’ fans.  To hear the fight song, to listen to Coach Erickson, to visit with the team members in a room with a two color only theme:  MAROON and GOLD!

In the fall, the Chamber hosts the FEST DEVIL BASH the night before our homecoming game.  This event is a collaboration of ASU and the business community and recognizes their efforts to build a better future. Once again, it gives the Chamber’s businesses, members and ASU folks the opportunity to visit, to exchange, share, and reminisce about their own homecomings of years gone by.

When ASU needs us, we’re there. As with any great relationship, we can agree to disagree and continue being supportive of the University’s commitment to our future Chamber members- its students.

We have a hometown school and a great team in our hometown. To the “new kids on the block” (of Rural and Apache), WELCOME and GO DEVILS!
